Women Out Work

Working to Support, Guide and Connect with LGBT women at work

The WOW Network was founded in March 2017, in response to a study which found that 64% of LGBT women in the workplace felt unable to come out.

The WOW Network is a direct response to this need for a group to support, guide and connect with LGBT women in the workplace.

The WOW Network is the only network in the UK which is dedicated to supporting LGBT women in coming out at work. It is entirely run by LBGT women, to make it a safe space for this group.

With our help, we hope to be able to change the statistics, improve women's resilience and allow more LGBT women to be their authentic selves at work.

Lisa Charlwood-Green is the Founder and Director of The WOW Network.

Described as 'A Powerhouse of a Woman' by Pride in London, Lisa has actively championed for LGBT equality and diversity for over 19 years, starting with her work at LGBT Switchboard as a trained counsellor, through to volunteering with LGBT Youth, LGBT Health and Wellbeing and LEAP Sports.

She currently sits on the board of two charities, LEAP Sports and Outspoken Arts.

For 10 years she was the only openly LGBT person in an office of over 600 employees, where she was able to actively influence and change people’s perceptions just by virtue of being herself. Being in a very non-inclusive space, especially when pregnant, took a great deal of personal strength and resilience.

She was the chair of SQA's LGBT network, was the deputy chair of Network Rail's LGBT network, and worked with the University of Strathclyde to consult on LGBT staff training.

She has dedicated time, energy and personal funds to achieve her goal of making workplaces a safer and more inclusive space. She believes she has a responsibility to be a good role model as a mother of two and LGBT activist and leader.

She was described by the Chief Executive of Network Rail, Mark Carne, as being ‘an inspiration to myself and many others’. She has the power to influence a great deal of people simply by living the inclusive values that she stands for.
